Products We Love!

We have since entered the summer solstice and are living in the height of these warmer days. You may be finding windows of time to venture out in nature; enjoying the beach, camping or hiking. Maybe you're taking a summer course, embarking on a new job, city, or project. Your calendar may be marked with birthday celebrations, weddings, and family cookouts. There is an abundance of energy in the Northern Hemisphere right now.
A perfect time for me to introduce Solstice Sisters carefree kit. Taking the time to care for oneself is important and all up to the individual. There's some backlash articles popping up out there about self care being overrated. WHAT!? Maybe those articles are criticizing the lavishly overpriced treatments of the elite that are far removed from what real nature has to offer; at least I hope so. When you have access to nature and the healing powers of plants, you're in for a treat and possible transformation in more ways than one.
"Our carefree kit is designed to support you in your wild summer wanderings. We have chosen plants to nourish frazzled nerves, heal and protect sun-soaked skin, + calm tired minds --- to bring with you wherever you go." from the Solstice-Sisters site
Solstice Sisters began as a trio of three creative women and came to reality at HERBSTALK in June of 2015. "Herbstalk is a grassroots, Boston-area herbal event. We host classes on herbal and holistic health topics, offer urban plant walks, and bring together herbal crafters & artisans from across New England." - From the Herbstalk website
Now back to the sisters. The combined and magical efforts of Elissa: a social worker, herbalist, traveler, a long time friend of mine! Sara Riegler: now a graduate at UC Davis studying international agriculture and passionate about working with undeserved populations using farming as rehabilitation. Constanza: an herbalist now living in Colombia who studied with Elissa under Steph Zabel, the founder of Herbstalk.
The Solstice Sisters carefree kit was designed specifically to support this season when the nights are shorter, the days longer, and the sun shining stronger. I've had the joy of taking thsee goodies along with me in it's convenient muslin pouch while camping on the border of Massachusetts and Vermont last week. It's also been of great support during much unexpected change and constant uprooted nature in my current life. I've been residing in a hotel with my husband while in the midst of a move and new job. How exciting but also unnerving not knowing where we'll be living next and how the funny little factor of finances will play a role getting us through. A blog post for another time about money! All I can be sure of is the warm weather and us soaking up that energy as new doors open. Even more so, I have my plant allies with me always. I am constantly inspired by the connection of an ever-expanding, healing community feeling what is needed to bring us closer to the living earth and passionate to share. Sometimes all it takes is that cup of tea, that soothing bath, the self massage, laying in the grass, or a sweet earthy aroma to bring us out of our heads and back to our hearts.
This kit is comprised of a sun balm in the cutest little jar for natural skin protection. A gentle blend of oils like almond and avocado. Deep moisture from shea butter and extra virgin olive oil. For deeper skin repair and protection; raspberry seed oil, carrot seed oil, and zinc oxide have been added. The balm has such a sweet smell and sunny color. It's perfect for my sensitive skin.
The soothing salve was a savior on my camping trip. I do not have bad reactions to bug bites like some I've seen, but mosquitoes certainly like to take a stab at my ankles and toes when they have the chance! This soothing salve is multi-purpose for sunburns, scrapes, itchy bites, rashes, and general skin repair. A simple blend of comfrey, calendula, plantain, dandelion leaf, and helichrysum infused in olive oil. Rosehip seed oil and white grape fruit essential oil are also set into this blend for extra nourishment and healing.
To keep the curious critters at bay from the start of an adventure, I use the bug free roll-on: Catnip infused in avocado & extra virgin olive oils, along with eucalyptus, rosemary, cedarwood, and lemongrass essential oils.
It's gets even better. There includes a goddess mist: a refreshing, grounding blend to mist on the face and body whenever in need of renewal. A very earthy, yet uplifting and light aroma with all the necessary plants added, including witch hazel. The unique energy of this spray is the beautiful blended tincture of chamomile, feverfew, lavender, and oatstraw. A balance is created with added almond and jojoba oils infused with sage, vegetable glycerin, and essential oils. I've been using this spray morning and night, even as a gentle toner when my busy life doesn't call for time to wash the face.
Lastly and my favorite is the solstice tea blend: a lightly sweet nervine blend of tulsi, lemon balm, oatstraw, calendula, rose, helichrysum, and red clover. It's displayed and packaged thoughtfully in it's glass container, each flower and herb is just singing; "drink me, drink me!" I've been brewing this every night in our hotel room. Teas and stronger infusions are always my go to as my body absorbs them best and they are ready to make. This tea blend makes me feel cozy, light, released, protected, softer, and nourished.
The magic of the carefree kit and the combined efforts of the original Solstice Sisters took place in each of their kitchens around the Greater Boston area with the help of their communities and partners. Their creations were such a hit that they almost entirely sold out at their first Herbstalk premiere. Well done!
